HOW TO SELECT THE RIGHT INTERIOR BLIND FOR YOUR HOME
Choosing the right type of blinds for your home can feel overwhelming, with so many types to choose from it can be hard to know where to start. We've put together a few tips and hints so you can make your choice with confidence.
Firstly we need consider some basics:
BUDGET:
Your budget will have a lot to do with determining what option to choose. Remember when creating a budget, to include installation costs and any motorisation or smart devices attached that you may want.
STYLE:
There are six basic styles to choose from and each have their benefits, lets take a look at them one by one:
ROLLER BLINDS
There are a few options within the roller blind range. You can have your standard chain roller, motorised, easy spring or Aero rollers which is controlling two rollers on the same chain.
They are a sleek, budget friendly option that you can use to block out the light or choose a shade that merely dims. They are easy to operate and durable with simple clean lines. They are a great finish to every room.
ROMAN BLINDS
You can choose to have it chain operated or motorised. These are another great budget friendly option, yet still stylish in design and function. The fabric is often softer to create the folds which makes them a light and airy choice.
Although not great for blockout they are great for controlling the light in a room and help with energy efficiency by keeping the heat or the cool trapped inside. With a range of fabric options these are one of the best choices for a textured print.
VENETIAN BLINDS
Venetian blinds also have some great options within this style. They can be made from aluminium, wood or faux wood and are great for wet areas too. They are an easy to maintain option, durable and great for offering privacy and light filtering at the same time.
Venetians are a stylish, affordable and adaptable option for any home and style.
VERTICAL BLINDS
Traditional Vertical Blinds are an excellent choice for large windows or door panels, they provide controlled sunlight into your home through sleek looking tilting slats. You can have them with a cord, wand or motorised and they come in an array of colours.
Verticals are great for specified control of sunlight into the room. You can have them in blockout fabrics which allow you to direct the light how you would prefer. You can also have them on one track or lay two side by side with a centre opening.
PANEL BLINDS
The panel blind system is a great choice for multiple reasons, although only available with a wand option, they can be laid over multiple tracks which makes them great for large windows or doors. Panel glides use a unique tracking system, allowing sheets of fabric to stack away for complete openess and usability. They can have more than one opening and direction which can leave a space completely blockout or some light as desired. The options are endless.
Because they are panels they are great for use of prints and can be staggered with another colour to enhance a style as pictured.
MOTORISED CURTAINS
Motorised curtains are a contemporary twist on a basic curtain. With the use of the motorisation your curtains will never looked bunched up, which will help with wear and tear. With a range of fabrics to choose from you have the flexibility in your design to choose from complete thick blockout or soft, breezy light filtering drapery which creates a romantic summer holiday feel, as pictured.
Along with motorisation you can connect to your smart home so that your curtains can feel the hot sun streaming through and close automatically or set them to a timer for a morning alarm filled with light.
MATERIAL:
Choosing the right type of blind also comes down to which fabric is best suited to the rooms conditions. For example if your room is a wet area such as a bathroom or over a kitchen sink we recommend looking at options that resist moisture such as faux wood venetian blinds. As for the rest of the house you need to consider how much light the window gets. If exposed to high heat you may want to consider full block out in either roller or venetian as they have a light reflective backing which will help keep your home cool. You also need to consider how much light your want in terms of light filtering or complete blockout which will also be affected by how much privacy you need. If your front window is close to a busy street you may want a complete closed blockout system.
As you can see there is a lot to consider when choosing the right blind. if you're still feeling a little confused as to which blind system is best for you then don't forget to book in your FREE measure and quote
