Four Carpet Types
The following Carpet Guide will help you understand the types of carpets available for your home. Carpet types are determined by their construction.
TWIST
This most commonly used construction is twisted together to create a tougher product. Ideal for heavy traffic areas. Uniformed textured finish. Easy maintenance.
PLUSH
The softest option of the four types, plush has a straight fibre, helping it catch the light and shine. The pile will brush into desired lines, creating a luxurious look and feel. Ideal for silkier, synthetic fibres.
LOOP
From one uncut piece, the fibre is looped on the top layer to create a smooth surface whilst creating extra buoyancy. Often used with natural wool fibres.
WOVEN
Uses a traditional loomed method with patterns constructed in the carpet. This is called Axminster carpet. This is a premium option.
Five Carpet Yarns
PURE WOOL
This type of yarn makes a premium carpet, quite simply, because it is soft, natural and pure. Unlike any other fibre, pure wool is tough, resists dirt, is very durable and naturally flame retardant. With care, pure wool will last for decades.
POLYESTER
For busy households after a little comfort, Polysoft™ fits the bill. Featuring beautiful and bold colours while demonstrating good fade resistance, this option is even environmentally friendly: its often made from recycled PET plastics! A great all round twist option.
SDN
Solution Dyed Nylon is the modern face of carpeting technology. The manufactured nylon is dyed to the yarn’s core, using smart technology to ensure stain and fade resistance is optimal.
NYLON
An extremely soft new age nylon yarn in the Coverings’ range, this looks simply beautiful. Very stain resistant and a breeze to clean, this is an excellent choice for families and those with pets.
POLYPROPYLENE
This high-performance option presents excellent value, with very good stain and moisture resistance, good colour fastness and durability. Polypropylene represents great value, with its easy to clean fibre making this option a very affordable choice for the family household.
Natural Terrain - Felted Chunky Loop
Prestige Carpets “Naturals” Collection comes directly to you from the sheeps back. Well, that’s not technically correct. The yarn goes through a number of processes to make it into carpet but NO dyes are used. It’s pure, undyed, and as the label says….Natural! As we use no dye in the production, the colours of our carpets are as you would find in nature.
Rich and earthy tones. This means there can be colour variances across each production batch. Prior to installation your retailer can supply you with a sample from the exact production batch for your approval; we advise you should take this opportunity to ensure your total satisfaction.

Sick of sneezing? It's important to consider a few factors that can help minimise allergens. While no carpet can completely eliminate allergies, some options are generally considered better for reducing allergens. Here are a few choices that may be helpful dealing with pollen or seasonal allergies:
Low-pile or short-loop carpets: Options with short fibres or low pile height are generally easier to clean and maintain. They tend to trap fewer allergens, such as dust mites, pet dander, and pollen. Regular vacuuming and deep cleaning can help minimise allergens even further.
Natural fibre carpets: Options made from natural fibres like wool, sisal, or cotton can be a good choice for reducing allergies. These fibres are less likely to trap allergens and are typically easier to clean. Wool, in particular, has natural properties that can resist dust mites and repel other allergens.
Allergy-friendly treatments: Some options are treated with special allergen-resistant finishes that can help reduce the presence of allergens. These treatments can make it easier to remove dust mites, pet dander, and other allergens through regular cleaning.
Hypoallergenic carpets: There are options marketed as hypoallergenic, designed to minimise allergic reactions. They are typically made from synthetic materials and undergo specific manufacturing processes to reduce the release of allergens into the air.

This is a question only you can answer since the "nicest" type is subjective and can vary depending on your personal preferences and specific requirements. However, here are a few popular options that we’ve installed.
Plush or Saxony: They have a luxurious and soft texture, often with a dense pile. They provide a comfortable and cosy feel underfoot, giving a sense of elegance and sophistication to a room.
Berber: They are known for their looped construction and unique textured appearance. They are durable and can withstand heavy foot traffic, making them a popular choice for high-traffic areas. Berber comes in various colours and patterns, offering a stylish and contemporary look.
Frieze: They feature long, twisted fibres that create a casual and relaxed appearance. The twisted fibres give the carpet a textured and durable surface, hiding footprints and wearing well. This option is often chosen for their modern and trendy aesthetic.
Patterned carpets: They can add visual interest and personality to a space. They come in a range of designs, including geometric, floral, and abstract patterns. They can complement various interior styles and serve as a focal point or statement piece in a room.
Sisal carpets: Made from the natural fibers of the agave sisalana plant, primarily composed of sisal fibers extracted from the plant's leaves.

It’s natural you want your carpet to stand the test of time no matter what you throw at it.
When it comes to durability and longevity, there are a few factors to consider, including the construction, fibre type, and maintenance. To stand strong against kids, pet paws and clumsy husbands, here are some types that are known for their durability and long-lasting qualities.
Nylon: Nylon is one of the most popular and durable fibres available. It is resistant to wear, crushing, and staining. Nylon can maintain their appearance and performance even in high-traffic areas. Additionally, nylon is often treated with stain-resistant coatings, which further enhances their longevity.
Wool: Wool is a natural fibre known for its durability and resilience. Wool is highly resistant to wear and crushing and can maintain their appearance for many years. Wool fibres have a natural ability to bounce back, making them excellent at retaining their shape and minimising visible wear patterns. Wool is also naturally stain-resistant and flame-retardant.
Polyester: Polyester is known for their softness and vibrant colours. While polyester may not be as inherently durable as nylon or wool, advancements in fibre technology have made it more resilient over time. Polyester can provide good resistance to stains, fading, and abrasion. They are often a more affordable option compared to nylon or wool.
Triexta (PTT): Triexta is a relatively newer fibre that combines durability with stain resistance. It is known for its excellent resistance to wear, fading, and staining. Triexta has good inherent resilience and can retain their appearance even in high-traffic areas.

When it comes to choosing a colour that is timeless and versatile, neutral shades tend to be the most popular and enduring option. Here are a few timeless colours that can work well in a variety of interior styles. No one knows what future trends will look like, but the following colours are classics for good reason.
Beige or Taupe: Beige and taupe are classic neutral colours that can provide a warm and inviting backdrop for any room. These colours are versatile and can easily blend with various decor styles and colour schemes. Lighter shades of beige or taupe can create a sense of openness, while darker tones can add depth and cosiness.
Grey: This colour gained popularity in recent years due to their contemporary and sophisticated appeal. Shades of grey can range from light and airy to deep and rich, offering a wide range of options to suit different design preferences. Grey colour can provide a sleek and modern look while complementing a variety of colour palettes.
Cream or Ivory: These colours can create a sense of elegance and timelessness. These light, neutral colours can make a room feel spacious and airy. Cream or ivory colours can work well in both traditional and modern settings, providing a neutral canvas that allows other design elements to stand out.
Soft Tones of Brown: Soft brown tones, such as light browns or taupes with warm undertones, can create a cosy and inviting atmosphere. These colours can evoke a natural and earthy feel while providing a neutral base for other design elements. Soft browns can complement a range of styles, from rustic to contemporary.
When selecting a timeless colour, it's important to consider your personal preferences, existing decor, and the overall ambience you want to create in the space. Additionally, consider factors such as natural light, room size, and the function of the room, as these can influence how the colour appears in the space.

Determining the quality involves considering several factors that contribute to its durability, performance, and overall value. When comparing your options, use the following key indicators to assess quality.
✔ Fibre type: The type of fibre used is a crucial aspect of its quality. High-quality carpets often use fibres like nylon, wool, or triexta (PTT). These fibres are known for their durability, resilience, and ability to withstand wear and tear. Synthetic fibres like nylon and triexta are generally more stain-resistant, while wool is naturally resistant to staining and offers additional benefits like natural insulation and flame resistance.
✔ Density: It refers to how closely the fibres are packed together. A denser carpet typically indicates higher quality because it tends to be more resistant to crushing and wear. To assess density, press your fingers into the carpet and try to reach the backing. If it is difficult to do so, the carpet likely has a higher density.
✔ Pile height: Pile height refers to the length of the fibres. Quality carpets often have a consistent pile height throughout the carpet, indicating that the fibres are evenly distributed. Avoid carpets with irregular or uneven pile height, as it may indicate poor manufacturing or lower quality.
✔ Tuft twist: Tuft twist refers to the number of times the fibre is twisted per inch. A higher tuft twist count generally indicates better quality as it enhances the durability and resilience. Look for carpets with a tuft twist count of at least 5 or higher for better performance.
✔ Warranty: A reliable indicator of the quality is the manufacturer's warranty. Reputable manufacturers typically offer warranties that cover various aspects of the performance, such as wear, texture retention, and stain resistance. Longer and more comprehensive warranties often signify higher-quality carpets.
✔ Certifications: Look for models that have undergone independent testing and received certifications from reputable organisations. For example, the Carpet and Rug Institute (CRI) provides the Carpet and Rug Seal of Approval, which indicates that the carpet has met specific performance and indoor air quality standards.
✔ Feel and appearance: High-quality options often have a plush, resilient feel and a visually appealing appearance. Run your hand over the carpet to assess its softness and check for any irregularities, matting, or visible seams.

“We are so thrilled with our window coverings. It is so hard to think that it has been a year since we moved in.”

“Coverings Noosaville have taken their business to a new level. Its a fantastic experience to visit their showroom. Most Coverings Showrooms look like they have come from the mid century and are typically bleak and unimaginative. The products displayed are very appealing. Systems are app driven and sleek. Messaging and a smooth process is top class. Rate the team very highly“
