Coastal flooring Trends 2022
It makes sense here on the Sunshine Coast that the dominant interior trends would centre around the Coastal or Hamptons look. However, that doesn’t mean there’s only one type of flooring available to complete the style: far from it! In fact, the general trend in 2022 centres around bringing a little more personality to that traditional coastal look of light and neutral colours, warm materials and a relaxed vibe.
Comfort and nourishment
The past few years have had us spending a lot more time at home than we’re used to, and with that comes the need to make our spaces more beautiful and comforting. Ultimately, we want our homes to make us feel better during these past few pandemic years. As such, creating a nurturing and relaxed environment has become a key focus in home design. Think thick loop Sisal carpets, which provide the twin benefits of a truly natural colour with a great big swig of texture.
Hybrid Floors
Nothing says comfort and luxury more than wood floors, but in 2022, we’re going to steer away from perfectly grained and uniformly coloured woods. The distressed or aged timber look is most definitely on trend, and will be achieved through the growing popularity of hybrid floors. Hybrids fulfil another important function here on the Coast, being waterproof and able to stand up to those post-pool or beach feet: the hassle and upkeep of actual timber is thankfully absent.
Nostalgic Flooring
Patterned tiles through kitchens and bathrooms have grown in popularity over the last few years, but nostalgic floor patterns are beginning to take over other rooms of the home too. Parquetry and other geometric patterns are very much on trend at the moment. Stay in the coastal zone with engineered timber installed in parquetry of soft ash, greys or white wash. Black and white tiles and mosaics are also gaining popular momentum. The patterns are delicate, flowery and geometric, perfect for bathrooms, splashbacks or small entryways. These decade and even centuries old throwbacks bring memories of simpler, less complicated times to life.
Authenticity
One of the main trends for 2022 is authenticity, and in a federal election year the irony is not lost on us! Elements of craftsmanship, heritage and a bespoke look are all gaining popularity, especially in the natural, neutral coastal style. As mentioned above, distressed timber flooring that shows definite texture is key to creating a sense of comfort. The Heartridge Range in our showroom has plenty of this kind of authentic character.
Big Bold Carpets
Carpets continue to dominate our bedrooms, but in 2022, expect a mix of bright and bold contrasting colours in tones of red, geometrics and intricate patterns. This seems pretty out of step with the coastal styling mainstays of greys, whites and neutrals, but the earthy, organic natural trend is set to endure too.
