THE MOOLOOLABA FLOORING INSTALLATION
There was no gazing out at the ocean or watching swell hit Alexandra Headland a few months ago when Will and the Coverings team got to work on a beautifully positioned unit on the hill at Mooloolaba. Located within a turn of the century brick unit complex, the owners were after an overhaul of the dated interiors, going for that modern classic styling of white walls, cabinetry and stone benchtops softened with some gorgeous wood look Karndean LooseLay flooring. Positioned as they are on the top floor, the clients also needed to consider noise reduction with their flooring overhaul: happy neighbours = happy life! The Coverings team was not only able to help our clients with these acoustic challenges, but could advise on the right kind of look and durability for their beachside lifestyle with a competitive measure and quote.
Preparation for installation of floor coverings
Having lifted up and removed the existing flooring, the Coverings team prepped this installation with a full concrete grind and skim to level out the primary slab. This removes all imperfections and ensures the floor is perfectly level. Not only does this appeal to Will and the team’s OCD-like need for a smooth slab, it (more importantly) makes for an outstanding finished product. Here, preparation is key.
The underlay and flooring
Satisfied with the integrity of the concrete slab, the team then used a specialised flooring adhesive to lay down a 3mm acoustic underlay. Not only does this deaden any noise for the neighbours below, it makes for an ever so slight cushioning under the top flooring. With this particular brand of underlay and the level of care we take, Coverings is able to achieve superior acoustic qualities, exceeding the Australian Building Standards benchmarks.
Finally, the durable, easy to maintain and above all, beautiful Karndean LooseLay flooring was laid in next. This particular flooring is also equipped with acoustic qualities, ensuring an extra layer of noise deadening protection. Extra care and attention were taken to ensure smooth and flush lines were achieved throughout the unit, with a number of tricky partition walls and inbuilt benches requiring finesse and attention to detail: a millimetre can make all the difference between an excellent installation and an average one!
